A Study of the Importance of Nursing Activities in Hospitals


Abstract
A study of the importance of fifteen nursing activities that classified into four categories of patient care (physical care, psychosocial aspects of care, observing, reporting and implementing medical care, care for admission and discharge) was carried out from
September 22 to October 10, 1978 toward 300 hospitalized patients and 300 professional nurses in four university hospitals in Seoul.
How far the nursing activities are important to the patients is determined based on the general characteristics existing between the patients and the nurses age, educational background, the length of hospitalization and nursing careers.
The information obtained through inquiries is summarized by making a mean in order of the importance as follows:
1. An interest in the nursing activities and age patients noted: 40-49 years 2.38 20-29 years 2.42 30-39 years 2.43 above 50 years 2.57 15-19 years 2¡Æ66 nurses noted: above 30 years 2.01 20-24 years 2.34 25-29 years 2.38
2. The view on the importance of the nursing activities and educational background patients noted: read Korean 2.20 illiterate 2.32 college or above 2.35 high school 2.50 primary ,school 2.53 middle school 2.57 nurses noted: school of nursing 2.27 college of nursing 2.40
3. The length of hospitalization and nursing career versus the importance of the nursing activities
